Album: Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine - "Rampton"

What do you get when you put Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson in a band together? Well, about a thousand different titles come to mind. What do you get when you throw Lee Dorrian and Justin Greaves in the mix? You get Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine. The title is a reference to an Earth track, and this is their first and only release titled "Rampton".

Now... before you expect a bunch of feedback from Sunn amps with Lee Dorrian howling 400 pitches per second over it, let me just say that (thank god) that is not the case. Not only is this tastefully done, drenched in misery and filled with an unholy atmosphere and painfully slow riffs, but Lee Dorrian's vocals are actually tolerable... no, enjoyable, here! Also, this has to be one of the coolest things I've heard from O'Malley and it's not even recorded in an abandoned cathedral and the characters "0)))" are nowhere to be seen. This album even contains a goddamn Killdozer cover! This was, of course, released on Rise Above and Southern Lord and is just a really cool release (without desperately trying to be cool... take note, O'Malley and Dorrian. I hate because I care).

Live Recording: Tomahawk - "Live in Stockholm 2002"

Remember when I uploaded that live Killdozer recording and said that they were one of a handful of bands that I enjoy listening to live recordings from? Well, Tomahawk is definitely included in that handful. (Have you seen that infamous video of Mike Patton singing through a respirator? Badass.) This is a radio bootleg from 2002 of Tomahawk live in Stockholm, which fortunately includes mostly songs from their brilliant self titled album, a handful of tracks from Mit Gas and even a Frank Sinatra cover. Enough said.

Live Recording: Killdozer - "The Last Waltz"

"I'm taking off my tie becuase its casual day, dress down day, here at the office..."

This is "The Last Waltz", which is a live recording from Killdozer's (supposed) last show in 1996. I recieved this bad boy on red vinyl in the mail today and now am more than happy to share becuase Killdozer is one of a handful of bands that I actually love listening to live recordings from. This is a great quality recording and you get all the gritty, catchy, heaviness of this band, the brilliantly hilarious lyrics and the comedy of Michael Gerald all wrapped up in a nice little package. So sit back, relax and enjoy the live Killdozer experience.

Album: Killdozer - "For Ladies Only"

I've been listening to "For Ladies Only" by Killdozer a lot lately. This is a band that never takes themselves seriously, and this has to be the least serious of all their albums. Why, you ask? It's all covers. Elvis, Deep Purple, Steve Miller Band.... it goes on, and they're all done fantastically. There's something about Micheal Gerald's vocals that's silly, deeply sarcastic, and will really make you want to listen. Also, this will make you see these "classics" in a new light; in fact, it will make you realize how cheesy these songs really are while you enjoy how great the covers are. Their version of "Burnin' Love" is brilliant and they even make songs like "American Pie" sound good - at least if you're a fan of Killdozer you'll think so.

On a side note.. wasn't Touch and Go an awesome label?

Feature: Last Rizla and The Company Corvette

Not that this website is that big of a deal, but bands do send me their material now and again. (really, thanks for sending me your music, i love to recieve it.) I go through it and select the best ones.. and i mean, come on - would I ever steer you wrong? If you're into hearing some underground talent then keep on reading.
Here's a couple bands from this month that really caught my attention:
First up is Last Rizla, from Greece. Upon first listen I was really digging the Killdozer-esque (at times) vocals and variations of smooth and noisy guitar riffs. They're really eclectic but kind of sound like Kyuss would if they were signed to AmRep. Or something. This demo is sort of like listening to 10 different bands at once, yet it all comes together.
The next one is called The Company Corvette from Philadelphia. Their style is just heavy, psychedelic rock n roll. They're really reminiscent of Fu Manchu in some ways - I think it's the clean sounding vocals and heavy, groovy riffs. I'm really enjoying this - very smooth and catchy. Upload this album if you're into some really well-done heavy rock.
They just released an album and you can listen to it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QFNNTIA8
Or check out their myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/thecompanycorvette

Enjoy!
