Demo: Mark Lanegan Live at an Unknown Studio in Seattle 1991

Guess who's going to see Mark Lanegan in Seattle tomorrow?

...It's me, in case you didn't guess. In celebration of this fact here's an old live studio recording from Mark in Seattle from 1991. That's basically all I can tell you about this recording since I really don't know much else. (And in any case all you really need to know is that you'll get to hear some interesting versions of early Mark Lanegan songs.) So enjoy, and if anyone is also going to be at the Neptune show tomorrow holler at me!

Live Recording: Stiff Woodies - Live KAOS Session

this was a short lived band that involved folks that were in some other bands

bands with names like: melvins...mudhoney...nirvana

but on this particular recording (which was a little something they played on the radio back in 1986)...the members were krist novoselic on guitar...buzz osbourne on bass...and kurt cobain on the drums (and i'm hoping that i don't need to tell you which bands they came from)

they didn't have a set vocalist...so random members would just sing on random songs

1 - sin city* (no one really knows who sang on this one...it's rumored to be either matt lukin or dale crover)

2 - breakdance boogie (krist novoselic on vocals)

3 - loose** (buzz osbourne on vocals)

4 - c'mon and love me*** (buzz osbourne on vocals)

Live Recording: Mark Lanegan Band - Milan 12/03/2003

Did someone call for the night porter?

I have no idea who to credit for this one, but here's a recording of the Mark Lanegan Band playing Milan in 2003. The setlist is long and jaw-dropping, including a handful of great rarities and carefully chosen tracks that shine in a live setting like "Creeping Coastline of Lights" and "Wedding Dress". So enjoy this and buy your tickets for the upcoming acoustic US West Coast tour - I'm sure going to.

Live Recording: Green River - 10.24.87 - Scream Club - Los Angeles,CA

seeing as how you're all patrons of the ritual room...i'd like to think that you know what the grunge is all about

it's rumored that mark arm gave it the moniker "grunge"

and mark arm fronted green river

see how everything just came together?

the band also spawned a few other bands: mother love bone/mudhoney/pearl jam/temple of the dog

the band was on a 5 day tour of west coast when this turned out to be the their "last show" because they were fighting amongst themselves (and bassist jeff ament filling the band's guest list with music industry folks rather than friends of the band didn't seem to help matters much)

and i put the words "last" and "show" in parentheses because the band has since gotten back together and played a few one off shows since then and are also possibly releasing a new album and touring

but enough with the words...

Live Recording: Mark Lanegan - "Live at the Esplanade Hotel July 9, 2010"

Well folks, Ritual Room's good friend and loyal follower Paddy has done it again - and by "it", I mean he's sent over more awesome Mark Lanegan material. This is a bootleg that was being sold at Mark's recent show in Dublin that Paddy was kind enough to upload - a recording of a performance from July 9, 2010 at the Esplanade Hotel in Melbourne, Australia. Apparently it was basically the same setlist as the Dublin show and was quite the performance (as you can see by the setlist!). This recording is amazing quality as well. This gives me chills. Enjoy.

Live Recording: Mark Lanegan - Seattle 5th Avenue Theater, July 28 1995

Well, today is a pretty special day for Ritual Room (and a pretty uneventful day for the rest of the world)... our first birthday! Since today is July 28th, here's a cool live Mark Lanegan recording from July 28th 1995 when he opened for Johnny Cash. I'm not sure exactly who to thank for this recording, but it has some killer tracks so enjoy - maybe on our second birthday I'll post something even more mindblowing. ...Maybe that comment was just to entice you to keep reading.

so here's some more

what you get here is the band playing the relapse contamination festival back in '03 (in case you hadn't already put that together for yourself)

Live Recording: Earthless - "Sonic Prayer Jam"

This was a really limited edition recording that Earthless sold at shows a while back that later got reissued on a (once again, really limited edition) 10". This is essentially a live jam based on the track "Sonic Prayer" that clocks in at around 15 minutes. If you are familiar with the crushingly hypnotizing riff that makes up "Sonic Prayer" then that is reason enough to listen to this right now. (If not, well, goddamn - the riff that makes up "Sonic Prayer" is crushingly hypnotizing so you should listen to this right now.) Like most Earthless material this has almost a trance enducing effect and is cosmically dizzying. All in all this is just a really cool jam and is definitely worth a listen. Or a bunch of listens.

Live Recording: Soundgarden ("Nudedragons") @ The Showbox, Seattle 16/04/2010

If you missed the Soundgarden show at the Showbox in Seattle on Friday (I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the majority of people that wanted to go did... this show sold out insanely fast and was announced at the last minute), how about pretending you were there by listening to this live recording?

Other questions I have include: Why does Soundgarden love using wordplay so much? Will you look at this goddamn setlist? Will someone sell me the "Hunted Down / Nothing To Say" single that I couldn't track down today? And will I ever stop posting updates on this reunion?

Enjoy this! I converted FLAC files into MP3s here so let me know if you have any issues and I'll sort them out.

Live Recording: Tomahawk - "Live in Stockholm 2002"

Remember when I uploaded that live Killdozer recording and said that they were one of a handful of bands that I enjoy listening to live recordings from? Well, Tomahawk is definitely included in that handful. (Have you seen that infamous video of Mike Patton singing through a respirator? Badass.) This is a radio bootleg from 2002 of Tomahawk live in Stockholm, which fortunately includes mostly songs from their brilliant self titled album, a handful of tracks from Mit Gas and even a Frank Sinatra cover. Enough said.
